Abstract

Quality of life is one of the most basic concepts in Positive Psychology. The aim of present study was examining the prediction of quality of life dimensions, including Physical health, psychological health, social relationship and perception of life environment by family communication patterns dimensions, including conversation and conformity. The sample of the study consisted of 435 students – girls (215) and boys (220)- selected by cluster random sampling from different high schools of Shiraz city. Short version of World Health Organization Quality Of Life (WHOQOL) scale and revised version of Koerner-Fitzpatrick Family Communication Patterns scale were administered to the subjects. The results showed acceptable reliability (Cronbach alpha coefficient) and validity (Item-total correlation) of the instruments. By using simultaneous (enter) multiple regression analysis, the quality of life dimensions were predicted by conversation and conformity dimensions of family communication patterns. Results showed that conversation orientation was a positive predictor, and conformity orientation was a negative predictor of all dimensions of quality of life, including Physical health, psychological health, social relationships and perception of life environment. Family conversations would have increased the children quality of life whereas emphasis on conformity would have decreased the children quality of life.
