Theoretically, well known psychologists have had relatively different attiludes towards religion. Freud, the founder of psychoanalysis and Ellis, The founder of rationale- excitemental psycho- therapy had a negative evaluation of the role and influence of religion on mental health and human behavior. Others, such as James, Young, Alport, Moslow, Adler, and Fram had a positive attitude towards the influence of religions faith. In research, There are some contratory results about the issue. Most research reports illustrate a useful impact of religious faith on behaviors. However, a few research have pointed out the negative role of religion in
life.
In this paper, the attitude of well knows psychologists has been reviewed. Also, The functions and the role of religion in the domain of research are discussed pointing to teories which can enhance religious effects.
