A Reconsideration and Critical Analysis of the Teaching Disposition from the Perspective of Care Ethics

Abstract

The aim of this research is to identify and critically analyze the teacher's character from the perspective of caring ethics. This research, which was conducted using an analytical-deductive method, first analyzed and identified the concepts and components related to the teacher's character in two educational and training dimensions. Then, the themes of caring ethics in general and the themes related to the field of education and training were evaluated in particular. The general components of the teacher's character based on caring ethics, in the educational dimension, are diversity in providing content, ease in education, education based on the needs of learners, ... and in the training dimension, they include; being a role model, commitment and responsibility, trust, humility, .... In the stage of criticizing and evaluating the teacher's character, first, some experts' criticisms of the general themes of caring ethics are referred to, which include such things as; The negation of universality, ignoring justice and autonomy, essentialism, etc., and then in the criticism of the educational and training components of the teacher's character, the creation of emotional dependence, the difficulty of implementing it in crowded classes, and the structural limitations in implementing it... are mentioned. The analyses show that the caring approach in teaching, according to Noddings, creates a space for caring and expanding the moral space and maintaining and continuing relationships of care and trust with students, whose main elements include listening, conversation, critical thinking, reflective response, and creating thoughtful connections between disciplines and life itself. On the other hand, the themes of caring ethics also have characteristics such as compassion for others, situational orientation, detail-orientedness, and commitment to meeting the needs of others, whose carefulness and correct application, along with religious and cultural teachings and structural harmony and coherence, can increase motivation for education and create a sense of trust and security among students. Recognizing the components of teacher character also indicates the special attention of the caring ethic to the educational and training dimensions of learners simultaneously, because the teacher's morality, attention, and emotional support, along with expertise and skill, can have a significant impact on student performance and create empathy.
