Abstract

Present study was performed with the main goal of investigating the effect of hope-based group therapy on the promotion of hope in women with breast cancer. Because of the relationship between hope and depression, investigating the effect of hope-based group therapy on the reduction of depression was the secondary goal. This study is an applied and qui-experimental type (with Non-equivalent control group design).
The subjects were selected by using convenient sampling method from the list of women with breast cancer in breast hospitals. 20 subjects selected (10 persons in each group). Then the Snyder hope scale with a reliability ratio of o.89 and Beck depression inventory with a reliability ratio of o.86 were performed as pre-test. The results of statistical analysis of T-test supported doesn’t show any significant deference between the scores of hope (verified with a significant value of p=0.81 and reliability of 95%) and depression (verified with a significant value of p=0.72 and reliability of 95%) in pre-test. (p>0.05)
Then the experimental group was subjected to the intervention of hope-based group therapy. After a 8-session treatment( two months, each session being two hours) in experimental group in order to measure the dependent variables ( hope and depression ), the Snyder hope scale and Beck depression inventory were repeated as post-test in both groups.
The results of statistical analysis of T-test supported the main hypothesis (verified with a significant value of p=0.000 and reliability of 99%) and the secondary hypothesis (verified with a significant value of p=0.01 and reliability of 95%). As a result, hope-based group therapy in comparision to the control group would significantly promote the amount of hope and reduce the signs of depression in women with breast cancer
